Fall - 2 Credits

Passing grade in BIOG 101 is a prerequisite to BIOG 102.

Medicine can be considered as a branch of biology which is dedicated to the human species. This course, however, addresses the whole range of living things and incorporates both plant and animal biology, emphasizing themes such as the diversity of species, ecological principles and evolution, thereby demonstrating biological principles such as homeostasis which are fundamental to the human organism in health and disease.  The fall semester covers the chemical and cellular basis of life, energy transformations, physiology, neurobiology, and behavior. Each topic is considered in terms of modern evolutionary theory, and discussions of plant and animal systems are integrated.
