Dr. Terrance Murphy, Professor of Chemistry at WCMC-Q, obtained his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1982. He has extensive experience in the Middle East, having held appointments in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. He has a strong interest in chemical education. Dr. Murphy's research interest is concerned with the interactions of metal ions in biological and medicinal systems. Specifically, he is interested in iron chelating agents in the treatment of iron overload in beta-thalassemia, the chemistry of bismuth compounds of medical interest, especially the development of potent Schiff base chelating agents, and gallium and rhenium Schiff base compounds as potential radiopharmaceuticals. He is a member of the American Chemical Society.
