Dr. Roger Hinrichs is Professor of Physics in the Pre–medical Program at WCMC–Q. He received his B.Sc. in Physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in Experimental Nuclear Physics at the University of Washington.

Before he came to WCMC–Q, Dr. Hinrichs was Professor of Physics at the State University of New York (SUNY)–Oswego. He has had extensive experience of teaching, research, and community outreach programs for high school teachers of science. His main research interests are in the fields of nuclear physics, particularly particle reactions in nuclear fusion; and biophysics, including the analysis of samples taken from patients with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and cardiovascular disease to identify the presence of trace metals.

A further interest is in the field of energy and the environment, a subject that Dr. Hinrichs examined in his book: Energy: its Use and the Environment, which first appeared in 1990; the fourth edition will be out this fall.

Dr. Hinrichs previously spent one year as a Fulbright Fellow at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, where he taught a course in solar energy, and carried out investigations in the fields of energy use and trace metal analysis.
